How to use Windows ME Bootdisk?
Another thought (lateral thinking) g :-
I suppose you've checked that your C: drive is good? FDISK'ed/Partitioned? Formatted?? Scandisked??? At the A: prompt, type "C:" (no quotes and Return) Does it change to C: ? (or at the A: prompt,) type "scandisk c:" (no quotes and don't forget the colon) Does it check (scandisk) the C: drive? Mart "Paul S." wrote in message ... Yes Mart, got the E: prompt when i typed in install got the error for drive C. at the E: prompt we typed in dir and got to the ME cd root folder. but typing setup.exe or autorun did not work . got invalid media type error message again. what do we need to do in the root folder to get this thing up and installing. Getting frustrated. How to use Windows ME Bootdisk?
Paul,
Before you even consider attempting to install WinMe, you must start by confirming that the C: drive HDD is good. From the floppy disk, at the A: prompt, type "scandisk C:" then Return. Let it do a surface scan (it *may* take a couple of hours or so) If this gives errors or won't complete, then sounds like the drive is faulty. If it throws out, or marks any 'Bad Sectors', then for all intents and purposes you should consider it as highly suspect and about to fail. You could try "format c:" at the A: prompt - but if scandisk hasn't already fixed (or failed) it, I'd guess that the HDD is shot. Try another HDD and format/scandisk to confirm it's good. Then try the "setup" procedure already outlined. FDISK is only (normally) necessary for setting-up a new HDD, or as a tool for investigating a suspect HDD. Good luck Mart "Paul S." wrote in message ...
