E and F Drive Gone
A few days ago my brother went to install a program onto our computer only to
find that there is no longer an E or F Drive in My Computer. I have a Compaq Presario 5BW284 5000 Series. I do not know what could have brought this about. Any help would be appreciated. |

What are or were these missing drives? Partitions on a hard drive,
optical devices such as CD-ROMs and DVD writers, USB devices of what? Knowing what is missing might help in finding the items. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows fire331 wrote: A few days ago my brother went to install a program onto our computer only to find that there is no longer an E or F Drive in My Computer. E and F Drive Gone
The E Drive was an optical drive, DVD-ROM and the F Drive was also an optical
drive, CD-RW. "Mike M" wrote: What are or were these missing drives? Partitions on a hard drive, optical devices such as CD-ROMs and DVD writers, USB devices of what? Try booting to Safe Mode, opening the Device Manager and deleting all
references there to your optical drives. Reboot back in to Normal Mode and let Win Me redetect your hardware. Hopefully you should now be able to see both of the drives in Explorer. If not what does the Device Manager have to say about the drives? If this still results in the drives being missing then you could consider using system restore and rolling your system back to before the problem began but note that I would only advise this if this was in the last few days. Finally if you still cannot access your drive try booting to DOS using a Win Me boot floppy. Your drives should each be allocated a drive letter. If you insert a disk in the drive (not a blank) can you see its content by typing DIR [driveletter]: at the A:\DOS prompt where [driveletter] is replaced by the letter allocated to the drive being tested? If this still results in no drives check that the drives haven't been disabled in the bios. The key stroke(s) required to enter the bios are usually displayed on the screen immediately after first switching on the PC. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows fire331 wrote: The E Drive was an optical drive, DVD-ROM and the F Drive was also an optical drive, CD-RW. |
