Default scanner not scanning

Thank you for the info. I have spent about 4 hours today mucking with this so
will start again tomorrow and will update. I had an old Epson colour and it
was great, I am wondering if I should have just kept it. You answered my
question about upgrading to XP. Sounds like I should just stick with this and
get it working.

BUT !! if in doubt, be sure that your System Restore is working OK and set a

I have read both articles and the second one on how to replace the
stimon.exe sounds somewhat daunting, especially if you make an error. What
exactly happens when I click on the scan icon, a message comes up saying
Epson Scan cannot be started. It is an Epson Sylus CX3810. I don't know of
any other way to get it activated. There aren't any scan buttons on the
printer itself, just to copy and they work just fine.

"Mart" wrote:

For starters, check-out both of the following KB articles and see if the
second fixes the problem.

"Description of Still Image Monitor (Stimon.exe)"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257815/en-us

"Error Message When You Start Computer: Stimon Caused an Invalid Page
Fault
in Kernel32.dll"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306393/en-us

If not, try to give an error message report or other details of what
EXACTLY
happens when you try to scan, e.g. does this only happen when you use the
scanner buttons. Does this also/only happen when you 'Import' your
scanner
into one of your applications or try it thru' the Control Panel etc,.
What
about the software application 'bundled' with your scanner.

BTW - which model of scanner/printer are you using and is it WinMe and
USB
1.1 compatible?

Hi SnS and Heather.

I've had the following ready-to-send for the past hour and a half and got
interrupted by the POT (Plain Old Telephone) before I could send it. So FWIW
here it is - belated - anyway :-

I am a little concerned that you could do with a little 'reading-up' on
WinMe. Try the Help pages, the various WinMe readme.txt (and similar) files
in the Windows folder and search around the Knowledge Base.

BTW - Please also reply to Mike's question (elsewhere) :-
What exactly does the Device Manager say?

I too am concerned about doing it with just reading up on it. The device

take my time, not wanting to mess up what is working. Will let you know.

The device manager lists the printer but with a
yellow exclamation mark.

Certainly sounds like a corrupted/damaged/incorrect or badly installed
driver from here.

Good luck
