Default error on startup

I have recently used windows update for ME, I can't remember the last time I
have updated, possibly years.

When system starts up I get error 0028C02C99AD, it says hit enter to return
to windows along with other options.
Upon hitting enter and returning to windows all the icons and taskbar etc
fail to show up. Just the screen saver appears.

When I updated through ME update I downloaded 7 crtitcal updates.

Any help would be appreciated,
Hogger

That error message is incomplete! - but it does give enough clues to perhaps
say that you need to reinstall/update your graphics drivers.....
try this first
Reboot to Safe Mode
Open Device Manager
Remove ALL Display Adapters
Remove ALL Monitors
Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall the required drivers -
hopefully curing your problem.

If that fails, then post back with any error messages, or oddnesses seen in
Device Manager

Thanks Noel for the info, I tried what you suggested but when I reboot to normal I get error message again

The message is OE;0028;C02C99AD and now there is just a small white box
showing on the screen.

When rebooting it said windows is detecting any devices then error message
came up.

Thanks in advance if you are able to help

You need to reinstall the drivers for the Video Adapter - go to the
manufacturer's website and get the latest version, and install them while in
Safe Mode
