MCI sound driver
Heather/Mart/Heather wrote:-
..... I burned all of my mp3's as *data files* to CD's ..... and they play just fine. ..... And saved an awful lot of hard drive space too vbg LOL!! 1500 mp3's?? Nah. I still only used half of my 40 gig HD on WinME with everything. Now that I have 120 gig, I will have "to go some" to fill it up. Sure enough Heather, but I was really alluding to the worst case scenario of 1500 .wav's. Now where's my mainframe? g Mart snip |

MCI sound driver - PS
Heather when you said to "Empty your temp & TIF folder first.....then
scandisk and defrag..... *Temp* files you are referring to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP , but not the file folder itself ... correct? Correct....the ones ending ususally in *.tmp. There will be others with different extensions, so moving them out to a new folder would be advisable until you see if they are needed (they never are, grin). Super to hear that you are progressing so well. But I still think you should dump Adaptec 4 and get Roxio 5 or 6. Cheers from Toronto.....Heather "SSAP" wrote in message ... Hi Heather & Mart Well I don't know how this happened but after doing six transfers of approx 90 mp3 files, each having about 60 *usable copies* ....... all of a sudden it started doing successful CD creations with NO errors. I gradually worked up to 150 mp3 files per transfer after getting no errors. The only thing different I done: used the new PC to erase the CD-RW (old PC was burning so I was trying to save time). BTW - the new PC's CD-RW Erase referenced Roxio in the process popup window. My computer terms are pathetic so I hope you get the jest of what I'm saying. Thankyou for the link to the upgrade site and the other tips. Tomorrow I'll delete the mp3 files from the old PC - do a clean, scan and defrag then see about uninstall/restall/updates if the adaptec program goes haywire again - time will tell. I'll also into your other suggestions, so I'm alittle prepared. I realize that the mp3 files take alot of space so our son can now move, copy, burn rip or delete from the new PC. Thus giving me working space on the old PC for the programs (which I like to use) that are not XP friendly. I know its crazy to have two PCs set up ! *Hard to teach an old dog new tricks* scenerio, but I'll get there eventually. Heather when you said to "Empty your temp & TIF folder first.....then scandisk and defrag..... *Temp* files you are referring to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP , but not the file folder itself ... correct? I'll post back with tomorrows results. BTW - I am from Saskatchewan. SSAP - Connie "Heather" wrote: Hi Connie.... Mart is over the pond and I am in Canada, so we operate at different times, grin. About the only other thing I could suggest is the uninstall and reinstall of Adaptec. Plus go to the Roxio website and make sure you have the updates...I believe there was just one that made it become version 4.05. I will find the spot, coz it is confusing on that website. OK....found it, but that is one old program!! I would really suggest you hit eBay and get at least Roxio 5 or 6. Anything higher will NOT work on WinME, btw. http://www.roxio.com/en/support/uk/e...pdatesv4.jhtml There are updates on that page. Check your program under Help/About and see what your version is. MCI sound driver
"SSAP" wrote: My PC is not allowing me to save any sort of audio to CD: (Windows ME) The error includes a line "Windows MCI Sound Driver is not loaded. Install via Windows Contol Panel. Previously I had been able to save audio to CD - not sure when it messed up (ie following an update or power failure ... etc). Upon digging around this is all I found that referenced *MCI*: in system properties performance PC Cards: (PCMCIA) - No PC card sockets are installed. I recently purchased a new PC (Windows XP Media) and would like to transfer my audio (songs) from the old to new PC. What, where should I be looking to fix this driver problem? Would it be possible to hook the old tower to new tower and transfer this way. I have no knowledge about this procedure. Thank you in advance for your suggestions and guidance. |
