Bad Cluster
Hi, I recently got told by my OS (Windows 98) that I have a few bad/damaged
clusters on my hard drive. I've run Scandisk throughly and told Scandisk to fix any errors however they're still there, I've also ran Disk Defragmenter. My PC now runs much slower than usual and startup takes a long time. If my PC crashes it runs Scandisk which says that this problem may indicate that there will be a hardware failure soon. Is this repairable or do I have to start looking for a new PC? Can I move the bad clusters and somehow get my PC to never use that part of the disk and basically ignore it? Thanks. PS - Will this help? http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=127055 |

I'd just get a new harddrive and transfer your OS to it... if that's your only problem, you hardly have to get a whole new computer |

Go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site and download their free diagnostic utility. Run that to check out the drive. If it reports that there are problems with the drive then you should replace it as soon as possible. Good luck Ron Martell Duncan B.C.
