Can't find Windows Loader Installer
I've had no trouble before, shut down normally the other day.
Cold boot just now, after BIOS screen, after password screen, next phase, get the error screen "can't find Windows Loader Installer", it shows the path statement. The path statement is to a subfolder in my Download folder, this is not in my Windows folder, there is nothing in my Download folder that would effect Windows bootup. This screen stops the bootup process. In Task Manager, Windows Loader Installer, run once, and something else, no other entries. This computer is not on the internet, recent virus scan was clean. Advice? TIA |

Try running System Restore - if you can access it in Normal Mode - if not,
have you tried booting into Safe Mode? Boot into Safe Mode (Ctrl or F8 keys during bootup) and let it continue to the Help Centre (may take a few minutes). Halfway down the page, select and run System Restore. Then pick the last time that the PC was working normally. See if that improves things. Mart wrote in message ... Can't find Windows Loader Installer
You've tried the 'Official' MS method of holding down or 'stabbing at' the
Ctrl or the F8 keys, BUT you do need to do this IMMEDIATELY you power up your PC and keep 'stabbing' at them before the WinMe splash screen shows. You may even need to keep them pressed throughout the boot process. You could also try the same using the Shift key. If however, you are still unable to get into Safe Mode, try booting using the Windows Startup (floppy) Disk and choose options 2) or 3) At the A:\ prompt, type "scanreg /restore" (no quotes and note the space between the g and /) then press Enter. Follow the screen prompts and when asked, select the last 'good' date prior to your problems, continuing with the instructions. Don't forget to remove the floppy disk BEFORE you tell the machine to reboot. However, what also worries me a little is your need to cancel your logon screen - but that's for another time. But AFAIK it does not apply to ME. Sure enough, I typed exactly as you noted, but I get "bad command or file name". In the boot menu was Safe Mode, but IIRC, System Restore was disabled to give some benefit before (???). 1. How to get scanreg to work- this would be perfect. 2. Then I edited the registry and hard drive to remove all instances of the program that should not have had any effect anyway. Then I rebooted and everything is fixed!! Several questions- please answer my other reply about scanreg for the future. Also, I checked and System Restore was not disabled in the File System screen in System in Control Panel. But I looked in my Restore folder and the subfolders are all labled 12/03. ???? So I am not creating new System Restore points. How to do it? Can't find Windows Loader Installer
Hi mike,
First, well done for 'hanging on-in' with your attempt to boot into Safe Mode - it paid off g 1. How to get scanreg to work- this would be perfect. If scanreg works, it would be IDEAL, it saved me in W98. But AFAIK it does not apply to ME. It's saved a lot of people!! bg and, it DOES also apply to WinMe Sure enough, I typed exactly as you noted, but I get "bad command or file name". Mmm .. maybe.. - are you using a WinMe Startup floppy or a Win98 floppy? A WinMe floppy has the path to the scanreg.exe file 'built-in' to autoexec.bat, whereas you have to state/define the path yourself, if you use a Win98 floppy. The path is C:\windows\command BTW - seeing that you can now boot (successfully) into Safe Mode, you can run scanreg /restore from the Run command box on the Start Menu - although I prefer to do it using the WinMe floppy. 2. In safe mode, if System Restore is N/A, advice? Maybe several reasons - but I strongly recommend that you visit Noel's site :- http://www.crashfixpc.com/quiktipsr.htm Good luck Mart wrote in message ...
