I have heard a rumour to the effect that MS will soon be issuing an Update
which addresses the issue with the subject file and the memory leak -
mentioned in the link above.

Can anyone add to this please?

I doubt it very much, Ben - ME is effectively out of support now..
What **may** happen is that the patch will be made available for download,
although not put up on WU, so that those who need it can still get it.
At present, it's available for free by phoning PSS and quoting the KB
reference, and explaining why you think you need it.

For those very very few people who have a network card that is affected by
this problem, and very few are, a hotfix has been available since
August/September 2000. See MS KB278368 - "Memory Leak in Atmuni.sys in
Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me"
