Default SVGA Driver

Hi there,

I just re-formatted my hard disk and re-installed 98, and now am having real
trouble getting my display to register anything above 16 colors. before the
re-install it was - I think - displaying true color, and I foolisly forgot
to make a note of the display adapters driver. Windows automatically
installs the Standard PCI VGA display adapter driver, but obviously this is
insufficient

Any help as to what I may need greatly apreciated.

I'm running 98 on an Intel x86 machine, with a Di-fusion e700 monitor.
Unfortunately, as this machine came from an office and I am yet to open the
beast up, I do not know what make the display adapter is.

Thanks in advance

mo

then open the box up and find what the adaptor is, and download the right
driver from the manufacturers web site
Ditto for on board graphics, from the manufacturers web site

Try using Everest Home Edition from www.lavalys.com to find out what make/model
video/display adapter you have. Use that to find drivers. If you need help
figuring out where to get your drivers, post back with make 7 model, etc.

Download the free Everest Home Edition.
http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?lang=en

Create a new folder named Everest and extract the contents of the download to
that folder.
Open the folder and double-click everest.exe to run the application.
Click the + next to Computer.
Click Summary.
On the menu bar click Report Quick Report-Summary Plain text.
Save to your desktop and close Everest.

Open the report on the desktop.
Delete everything from Debug on down to the bottom of the page and save.
Press CTRL+A to select all.
Press CTRL+C to copy and close out.
Open a response in this thread and press CTRL+V to paste.
Post the results.

Such a relief of a headache. Always nice to learn about a new tool, and
Everest seems great to me. Answered my question in about 2 seconds!!!

Yup! I use it all the time, ever since I got turned onto it several months ago.
There have been other similar tools, but this one seems better to me.
