Default Illegal Operation Message w/USB

I have an IBM Aptiva that came with Win95. I installed a
larger hard drive, updated to Win98SE and installed a NEC
USB(4)2.0. Then I installed Vivitar Camera software.
First, I got a Camera Connection Error message on all four
ports. I finally pulled the hardware, reinstalled it, and
loaded all of the required drivers again. According to
the instructions I have everything installed: NEC to PCI
Enchanced; 2-NEC PCI to USB Open Hosts; 4-USB Root Hubs;
and two VIA programs. Everything checks out. Now I get
the error message no matter which port I plug the camera
cable into. I've spent all day trying to get this stuff
to talk to each other and I'm running out of ideas.
Help! Has anybody run into this problem? Thanks.
