Default Error Extracting Support Files

I need help with the following statement "Error extracting support files:
Interface not registered".
This first occured whilst trying to upload software for a epson printer
(Photo RX500), and occurs everytime I try to upload further software.
I tried all the methods I know to resolve this problem, ie checking the
registry, re-loading software etc; but keep hitting a brick wall.
This one's really got to me, am I missing the obvious, is there a simple
answer?

Here are two things to try:

Clean out the temp directory.

Close all applications running in the background including your anti-virus
software

I've tried all these including visiting the 'Knowledgebase' and downloading the suggested DLL's etc; but still no luck.

If you have already consulted a KB article, it helps if you quote the
number. Was it this one?

Initially kb 311203 was one of the articles I read, but it didn't seem appropriate at the time.

My problem seemed to be related to either the DAO or Jet DB Engines, these
were the articles I read about and downloaded their respective DLL's etc;
(Which one's I've lost track of).
However I now have a further problem, having relooked at kb 311203, I
followed its instructions to delete then re-install the Install Shield folder
but are unable to find it on the Install CD. Can you please advise.
Thanks
Keith

I'm not sure what install CD you are referring to. Now that you have
deleted the Installshield folder, does the installation work?

Sorry Jeff, this pc really getting to me.
It was the Win98se CD (Original Mesh OEM) I was referring to when I said I
couldn't find the Install Shield.

Having deleted the install shield , I am unable to load any software all I
get is a box asking me to "Install or Cancel" but only the Cancel option
works.

What are you trying to install? This type of error can occur if there is a
previous failed or incomplete installation. Try clearing the TEMP folder
first. Then look for a remove option for the application, or uninstall it
using Add/Remove programs. If that's not possible, delete the application's
folders and files, and try the installation again.

Some installation packages come with an installshield folder on the CD, but
I don't believe there is any need to be concerned with it - the installation
procedure uses it as necessary.
