Compability Mode Paging reduces overall system performance
As a Windows 98 se operator, I need some assistance. Compatibility Mode
exist for Drives A and C. There's no problem indicators in Device Manager except on the performance tab. Windows Me Troubleshooter suggested Windows did not recognize a driver in config.sys or autoexe.bat on a Windows Me GATEWAY PC. Getting into Windows GUI is difficult and time consuming. When I start opening applications the system hangs and I have to start all over. How much of this problem can be resolved in DOS with the EBD? Please post references or knowledge base articles. Thanks for your assistance, Davis |

OOPs! Sorry if my message seems confusing. The problem exist on my
daughter's Windows Me Gateway computer. Davis ============================ "Davis" wrote in message ... As a Windows 98 se operator, I need some assistance. Compability Mode Paging reduces overall system performance
OOPs! I found two #$%^% in Device Manager for PCI INPUT CONTROLLER and PCI
Multimedia Audio Device. Formatting drive C and restoring WindowsMe did not resolve the problem. They're still highlighted in Device Manager and drivers cannot be found. Step by Step Confirmation makes entry into windows much faster. Apparently, the PCI Input Controller works with PCI Multimedia Audio Device on Gateway computers. The driver download for PCI Multimedia Audio Device must be loaded in the PCI INPUT CONTROLLER as well. Currently, both are without drivers. Hopefully, my newly burned data CD will open on WindowsMe. I thought WindowsMe would be boring with the System Restore, but it is quite challenging. With a little luck the forbidden AMD Athlon Processor is not malfunctioning, and the driver will resolve the problem. Thanks Mike... ============================================ "Mike M" wrote in message ... Davis, Have a look at MS KB 130179 - "Troubleshooting MS-DOS Compatibility Mode on Hard Disks" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=130179) and see if this helps in resolving your Compatibility Mode problems. It lists a number of possible causes for such problems together with some suggestions as to fixes. Getting out of compatibility mode can sometimes be far from easy. In some cases it can only be done by reinstalling Win Me. --? Mike Maltby MS-MVP Davis wrote: As a Windows 98 se operator, I need some assistance. Compatibility Mode exist for Drives A and C. Can you get the drivers you require from the Gateway site? Best of luck in
fixing the problem. Regards, -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Davis wrote: OOPs! I found two #$%^% in Device Manager for PCI INPUT CONTROLLER and PCI Multimedia Audio Device.
