Default Monitor shuts down when not in use

Hello, I have a Gateway with Windows 98. My monitor
shuts down shortly after the screen saver comes on. I
must manually press the start/off button and restart the
monitor then wait for the computer to light up screen.
Please help.
Thank you
Michael

Do you mean it goes into sleep mode or that the monitor actually powers off?

try going into control pannel then into display once your
in there click on the tab on the top that says screen
saver from there click on the settings button above ok,
cancel, apply. a new screen should pop up and near the
bottom of the screen there should be somthing that
says "Turn off monitor" and select how for it to wait
before it turns off.

If this doesnt work then i dont know what will.
