Default phantom phone number in DUN

having a problem recently. Whenever I set up a new DUN connectoid an
unfamilair phone number is inserted in front of the number i entered in
setup. i also see this now in the phone tools fax program. If I setup
a new person to fax to, it inserts this number in front of what I have
entered.

How do i get rid of this?

thanks

Ron

You've got spyware or a virus. Do absolutely everything Dave wrote you to
do.

dave,

gave your suggestion to user. just to clarify a couple of things. User has MacAfee
Internet Security uptodate and running and had Ad-Aware on but not up to date. we had kind
of discounted the idea of a virus or spyware because the number being inserted is local to
this rural area of upstate NY and it is going in such a way that it just keeps the call
from being made (get recorded message from phone company). assumption was that any malware
would want to hook you up to a toll call and have the call completed to run up a phone bill
or steal information. don't know if temp internet files would be involved since this
problem also happens when you are trying to use fax software and not even connecting to
internet. we thought that this number might be an old ISP number somehow retained in the
registry or somewhere else that we haven't found (have went thru Control panel, internet,
networking, etc.) will update Ad-Aware and give that a shot as well as cleaning out the
temp internet files again.

thanks

Ron

Check here. Go to Control Panel, Modems and double-click your modem.

Click Dialing Properties. Check what it says for area code and make sure
that it's correct.

Now check in the "When dialing from here" section under, "To access an
outside line"

If there is anything in either of these boxes, delete it. Once the boxes
are empty, if you need to dial a 9 or other digit(s) to access an outside
line, then enter it and click OK. Otherwise, just click OK.

If the boxes for "To disable call waiting, dial" or "For long distance
calls, use this calling card" are checked, then look here for entries that
might need to be removed or modified.
