Default Windows Media Player not recommended?

Sometime ago Mike M. suggested to someone that WMP is not recommended to
play media files.

I use JetAudio but it crashes every now and than. Which is the best than on
ME with some good features and light in eating sys resources?

What you use to play your media files (you don't state what sort of media
files) is very much a question of personal choice and therefore down to
you. What I might have said in a completely unrelated thread is say that
"I" don't use Windows Media Player and that instead I prefer to use other
media players, which media player however depends on the type of media and
the codecs used in their creation.
