Default MSPaint program will not open

The program itself will not open from the "accessories" list, not will any
item stored in Paint open. (mostly photos-some documents that scanned to the
Paint location) I have a Compaq #7594 Win98SE. It came with only restore
disks which would mean losing everything and beginning from scratch. Is there
any way to get MSPaint up and running without a full restore? Dr. Watson and
Systm file scan show nothing wrong. I do not have a paint program disk to
restore just that section and don't find a download for it. HELP!

Control panel, add remove programs, Windows Setup tab, double click
accessories, remove the mark from Paint, OK your way out. Then go back and
replace the mark

SNIP

Who cares? Paint is a pathetic excuse for a "paint" program
which has barely changed in 15 years. There are THOUSANDS of
better programs, an astounding amount of them free.

Calm down, calm down. We're dealing with someone who can't find her photos
without it. I intend to address that tomorrow (too tired tonight.) Or would
you care to do the honors?

Gary brings up a point that I was tempted to ask about when I first replied.
Do you use Paint to view photos? If so, get a proper viewer: Irfanview: A
very good freeware graphics viewer: http://www.irfanview.com/

If somebody is...

a) using MS Paint to view photos
b) unable to find a file WITHOUT using the program (the
crappiest one of the thousands they COULD be using instead)

....then they are beyond help and should go back to watching
soaps.

Maureen, if you are still reading this thread, please answer. As you may
have noticed, it is the consensus that Paint is not really the best program
around for viewing images like photos, scanned documents, etc. You also need
to learn about how files are stored, the difference between applications and
data files, and some other things that would make your life using Windows
easier.

However, I don't wish to go into details until I'm sure you are actually
reading this newsgroup thread. So please post back.

Interesting similarity in your two FUps, except for the curious
hostility towards me yet none towards "Maureen".

And you KNOW perfectly well that my comment about her was quite
rational, unless you happen to be someone who wants to
drive/fly/ to wherever she lives and spend several days
explaining what a file and a directory are. (Hopefully she makes
good coffee and apple pie.)

And, yes, I have no more patience for humanoids who post
"desperate" messages and then never come back to the group, or
most other idiots for that matter. I am too old to waste time
being nice to everyone, let alone people who may not even exist.

But don't worry, I should be dead soon.

LOL....a good astrologer should be able to give you an approximate date for that!
