If it's not the battery then it might be the version of TZedit. I'm using
version 1.0.1.0 That might be the way to go Mike. I'll download another
version and see if it works.

It was only last year that we were forced to handle this and I don't recall
having any problem at all.

The battery, or rather its state, should only come in to play when the
computer is powered down and disconnected from the mains at which point
the battery is used to power the motherboard clock and CMOS memory.

Were you able to make changes to your clock last year, or was it the one
before, when the US first changed the dates? Which version of TZEdit are
you using? In the past I've used the copy downloadable that formed part
of the Windows 98 Resource Kit [KB247024 "Tools Included with the
Microsoft Windows 98 Resource Kit"
(http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=247024] which can be downloaded from
http://www.softshape.com/download/tzedit.zip. Extract the three files
from the zip to a folder on your desktop. then run tzedit and select your
time zone from the drop down box. Hit edit and it will show the offset
from GMT and the current start and stop dates for DST. Edit to match the
new ones for your location and click OK to save. Reboot.

A later version of TZEdit can be downloaded from Microsoft
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...52f/tzedit.exe
but for some reason this version doesn't always seem to work with Win Me.

Thanks Mike

I restored to a point last month, reinstalled and edited TZedit but
to no avail. The initial change in Control Panel /Date- Time, I
selected Pacific Time but the clock did not change. I closed,
reopened and correctly selected Eastern Time Zone but again no change
to the time.
I'll play with it over the next day but it's looking like I can't
change the time on my computer. Would this be a sign that the battery
is going?

Sheesh, Harry!.....get another cup of coffee and a valium. I didn't say I
agreed with it!....I don't like it either. There are some benefits to it,
as well as drawbacks.....like having to change all my d*mn clocks! Ben only
came up with the idea, the modern day method wan't employed until 1907, I
forget that cat's name....not important. You could always move to whereever
it is in Arizona that doesn't adhere to DST, or any of the other places in
the U.S. Better yet, you could retire and not pay any attention to it, like
me......for half the year all my clocks are right, the other half I don't
give a crap.

Well, I don't see where it 'saves' any daylight.....we still have the

don't think Ben Franklin played golf.

Don't matter, H, he tried to please them and just because his name is
behind
it, doesn't mean it's beneficial, which I don't think it is. There are
states and places, where it isn't practiced. Daylight shouldn't be
"shifted", all it does is to upset one's bio-rythm. Think again!........

I had completely forgot about DST when I reinstalled Windows ME a few
months
back. Today I downloaded a copy of TZEDIT and went through the

procedure
of
resetting DST, including the last 2 instructions of selecting a

different
time zone in DATE/TIME (Control Panel) and then reselecting the proper
time
zone. For some reason, it's not catching.

Any ideas?

My dear Heirloom,
there isn't any valium nor any other medication near me and no overdose on
caffeine either. Complacency is hard to overcome, I know and most of us seem
to be stuck in it, no matter what the subject.
It's good to hear you are loving life also.
Keep it up...

Harry, who is not quite as complacent (lol).

I don't play golf, but what's wrong with that? I like DST, I like the
longer daylight hours during the summer time. I like having extra time
to do yard work or ride my bike or just have a cold drink and loaf
around. I enjoy that extra hour of daylight after work hours.

Just had another 35 cm. of snow......and with only 35 feet of frontage,
taken up mostly by a double driveway, you should see the height of the
snowbanks!! I took a picture earlier, but Ron was doing a *rude thing*
so can't post it, lol.

Besides, I will get one tomorrow when it is sunny.

No, I don't think so, I think they should keep it as it is now. What
does it bother you that DST exists or is in use where you live? What is
it that is so bad about it? Do you get up at 4:00 AM and go to bed at
6:00 PM? I like longer daylight hours after work or after supper, it
brings people out and it's fun!
