System Restore Disabled
Found Folders/Files. Thought I'd unchecked also "hide sysem files and
folders", but hadn't. I now seem to have restore capability back ?? i.e on a reboot and check found the "disable system restore" unchecked. It remains unchecked on reboot. All I did was remove the above 4 files to temp location, reboot, copy back and reboot. So assuming the ability is there how do I set checkpoints and /or restore Can't find anywhere. Thought it would be under accessories/system tools but it's not.. "barrowhill" wrote: System Restore is permantly disabled. I can turn it on (uncheck) but on reboot returns to disabled (checked). Also the restore disc size slider is inoperative - stuck between min and max. Associated text is grey scaled out. Retore folder (viewing hidden files and folders) properties indicate a size of 1.29GB containing 4660 files and 5 folders. Highlighting and "opening" _RESTORE folder in widows explorer shows only the following four files - DISKCFG.DAT, SRDISKID.DAT, VxDMon.cfg and VxDMon.dat Can anyone help me restore _RESTORE (excuse pun) and get working properly again. |

System Restore Disabled
Deleting the C:\_RESTORE folder from DOS or emptying it as you appear to
have done is a standard way of resolving certain problems with system restore where the problem is due to corrupted control files. System Restore may be launched using any of the following methods, hopefully you will find at least one of these on your system. a) Using the button on the General tab of Msconfig. b) By launching system restore using the shortcut found at Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools, c) From the link in Help & Support, d) By entering C:\windows\system\rstrui.exe in the Start | Run box and clicking OK, or, e) By directly double clicking the file rstrui.exe (Use Windows Explorer, rstrui.exe is in the windows\system\restore folder). Once you've established how to launch system restore may I suggest that you carry out the following quick test to confirm that all is now in order. a) Create a shortcut on your desktop to a file. b) Create a manual checkpoint Could you create a checkpoint? c) Delete the shortcut d) Restore your PC to the checkpoint you created. Was the shortcut restored? Did you see any error messages? e) Reboot your PC Was the checkpoint retained? -- Mike Maltby barrowhill wrote: Found Folders/Files.
