Remote Desktop Client question(s)

I am trying to configure a Windows ME PC to connect with a Windows XP-Pro
desktop at work.

I configured a VPN Connection to connect to my work LAN without any issues.

However after downloading and installing the Remote Desktop Client, and
configuring the client, I can not connect to the remote desktop. In fact I
can not connect to any of the desktops in my lan. I am entering the correct
login information (username, password, domain) in the client logon window.
And it's not that the login information is wrong, it's that the ME system
can not see the remote system.

For a sanity check, I am able to connect without any problems from an off
site WinXP system so I know the desktops are fine.

The WinME's normal logon is the Windows logon vs a Domain logon (it is a
home machine, you know).

Any Ideas?

Does your workplace allow you to connect to work PCs? Do they have a
firewall and have they made the appropriate exceptions to allow remote
desktop to work correctly? Do you have a home router/firewall and has it
been configured to allow remote desktop to work?

Whether or not you can connect to an "offsite" system makes no difference
whatsoever to most of those questions. The fact that you cannot connect to
your WORK system indicates that there is a configuration problem on that end
of the network connection.

I can connect to my work site via a vpn connection and then connect to my
desktop PC via remote desktop connection. So can others in my organization.
They too can connect via vpn and connect to their respective desktops..

Once connected via vpn, I can not only connect to my desktop, but also to
the desktop in question.

What all of us have in common is that we all run Windows XP from home to
connect.

This one user is running Windows ME and can connect to the lan via vpn.
There! She's in the front door. After that, she can not go any further.
She can not see any systems to connect to although everyone else can.

I believe I've said enough to say the system works and allows us to do what
we want except for this one Windows ME system.

Any other suggestions are always appreciated.

Well, since I do not have a Windows ME Installation CD, I had to go way back
in time to Windows 98. They both seem similar and I was able to reproduce
my problem. I was also able to solve my problem.

DHCP!

Once connected via VPN to my remote network, I was able to obtain an IP
address on the remote network via DHCP. And that's all I got. I had to
manually configure DNS, Gateway, and WINS servers.

Now it works.
