Two configuration steps are required.
1. Determine if it's Cable Select (CS) or master slave. This may be dictated by other devices on the controller or by the cable already installed or by the controller itself. 2. If it's master slave, ensure that the jumper is set on the drive correctly so it doesn't conflict with another device on the same cable. If these settings are correct and the BIOS doesn't see the drive or the drive hangs the machine then I would suspect a faulty drive or a faulty power supply to the drive. In some cases there may be a compatibility problem with another device on the same controller - try disconnecting that other device and see if the behaviour changes. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "me" wrote in message ... Absolutely. To save time, disconnect all, then connect the drive on
secondary (if WD, set jumper to master alone) to see if bios sees it. Then connect, the secondary slave if there is one (change the jumper to master w/slave if the new drive is a WD as well). Then connect primary ide stuff. If any cause problems, you may need to reshuffle. In some cases, this won't work. The device causing problems must be removed from the system. Or connect via USB 2.0 or Firewire box if you PC has that capability. "Jeff Richards" wrote in message ... Two configuration steps are required. 1. i have this same drive, and i trying to do the same thing.
there is a jumper for 32GB clip, you can put it there for slave or master, whatever the need..and the bios will see it. but your hd is only seen as 32gb. you can download a program from hitatchi that allows you to change the size of the drive and stuff, but the problem is that the jumper is still showing the pc that your hd is only 32. i am currently trying to figure out how to fix this..any ideas? -----Original Message----- Absolutely. If you use the Hitachi drive overlay software to overcome the BIOS 32Gb size
limitation, you have to remove the jumper from the drive. Then you have to re-partition the drive with the Hitachi software installed. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "bobtx" wrote in message ... i have this same drive, and i trying to do the same thing. there is a jumper for 32GB clip, you can put it there for slave or master, whatever the need..and the bios will see it. but your hd is only seen as 32gb. you can download a program from hitatchi that allows you to change the size of the drive and stuff, but the problem is that the jumper is still showing the pc that your hd is only 32. i am currently trying to figure out how to fix this..any ideas? -----Original Message----- Absolutely.
