Does Windows ME even have a firewall. I have looked in almost every place
possible and cant seem to find one. I dont know when i last updated the
windows either because it is not my home PC and i dont use it everyday, but
it seems to get virus all the time.

Another problem that does happen is apoun start-up i do recieve some errors
that seem to be registry type errors.

If you have any help with any of these issues please help me out

Default ME firewall????

Microsoft operating systems prior to XP do not have a built in firewall.
This includes Win Me. Probably the easiest way to implement a firewall is
to connect to the net via a router, alternatively you will need to install
a third party firewall but note that many current products are not Win Me
compatible. Products commonly used are early versions of Kerio, formerly
Tiny, (v2.1.5 works well with Win Me) and Zone Alarm (versions up to and
including 6.1.744.001).

Another problem that does happen is apoun start-up i do recieve some
errors that seem to be registry type errors.

Details please such as the text of all error messages seen.

No, not natively built-in. You will have to use a third party firewall.
Kerio PF 2.1.5 is a small footprint firewall that you could use, I
found it to be a good firewall on ME. Direct download link he

Windows ME doesn't have its own firewall. Use a third-party solution, and if
the machine is on a high-bandwidth ISP (DSL or cable), use a proper router
between the modem and the machine(s), one that has a NAT "firewall". Even if
it's only one machine, it's wise to add this protection to your network.

How do you know you're getting viruses? Do you have a real-time AV scanner,
one that is constantly monitoring in the background, or do you only manually
scan every once in a while? Viruses have to come from somewhere. If you're
using a normal real-time scanner, when do the alerts show up? While you're
doing what?

What, exactly, are the errors? We need exact, verbatim texts including
details, if any. If the details are long, leave out the "registers". Error
message and details shouldn't be longer than a line or three. Make sure to
indicate when, at what point in the boot cycle, the errors occur.

I find nothing on that particular error. Does the blue screen happen *after*
you log on, or before? Do you ever see the Desktop before the error(s)? How
do you recover from the error? Reboot? What percentage of the startups would
you say this occurs? Are they all OE 0028 errors?

Note that none of these errors suggest a virus, per se. What makes you think
you have a virus?

Default ME firewall????

Check your video drivers. Boot, to Safe Mode if easier, and check the
version of your video drivers in Device Manager.

If not video, what other hardware or driver changes have you made to your
system recently? Errors such as you have now described have little to do
with the registry nor, as Gary has already said, a possible virus but
rather are often driver related.

Why do you think that such an error is either virus or cookie problem?

See http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

If you've got AdAware, you've got the most important piece, though
SpywareBlaster will help prevent nasty sites from doing nasty things. I use
those two and Spybot Search & Destroy. Plus Avast! antivirus. All are free
for personal use, but indicate elsewhere that you have an IT manager. The
free stuff isn't for business machines. Should pay for the apps in that
case.

Is/are the machine(s) you're concerned with under the authority of the IT
manager or are they personal machines? Don't go messing with the machines
under the IT manager's control. That is not nice and you don't know enough
to safely override his/her authority.
