look here for instructions on how to clean up your startup axis, preventing
unnecessary programs loading http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f.../Mar27pmvp.asp "kelley" wrote in message ... i have a lot of things running at start up. every time i do scan disk or something like i get mesg. telling me that i need to quit running some things. the problem is i dont know how to permantly stop running them. i did not do anything to make them run all the time. i know how to temporarly stop running them but if i shut down the computer they come back, then have to do all over again. please help |

Have a look at these sites to assist with programs that load with Windows
and then below for Scandisk and Defrag help. Joan CTRL-ALT-DEL will bring up the End Task window, however, it will not show every running process. Most apps can be disabled from within the app itself by using Properties or Settings or Options......the best way to disable an app. Here are some sites that will help you trim your startup axis......they will tell you what is needed and what is 'fluff.' http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php http://www.3feetunder.com/krick/startup/list.html http://ww2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Uncheck.htm http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...s/tasklist.htm http://www.greatis.com/regrun3appdatabase.htm Get the free ScanDefrag. It is the most advanced disk maintenance program there is. It runs Disk Cleanup, ScanDisk, and Disk Defragmenter. It's easy to setup and use, and it can deal with problems like "drive's contents have changed: restarting...". Get it and read about all the options it has that you can use. http://home.earthlink.net/~bblanton2...efrag/main.htm http://www.blueorbsoft.com/scandefrag/index.html It is not unusual to see Defrag restart a number of times. It is , however, unusual to see ScanDisk restart. This is why I suggest starting it at bedtime and letting it run overnight. Please, email "The ScanDefrag Team" if you have any problems using our program. Your problem, will be properly attended to. And we assure you, that every attempt will be made to resolved it.. To see how to email us, read the ScanDefrag "Readme" file, using ScanDefrag under the "Help" menu. kelley wrote: i have a lot of things running at start up. every time i do scan disk or something like i get mesg. telling me that i need to quit running some things. the problem is i dont know how to permantly stop running them. i did not do anything to make them run all the time. i know how to temporarly stop running them but if i shut down the computer they come back, then have to do all over again. please help |
