Computer not starting up correctly. Keep getting error messages concerning:
rundll, powrprof.dll, setupapi.dll and sevinst.exe among others. Have Norton
installed which is not working either. Ran scan disk and it said no
problems. Tried to run scan disk in safe mode but cannot start in safe mode.
Otherwise everything else but my IE6 is working. Says I have IE6 but it's
not the one I had and cannot update.

1. The number one suspect for any and all problems on any computer
that has a Norton product installed is that Norton product. Try
uninstalling Norton and installing something else in its place such as
the free versions of AVG or Avast antivirus

2. For Internet Explorer use Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs.
Locate the entry for IE6, click on Add/Remove and choose the option to
"repair Internet Explorer".

3. For your other problems please provide the complete *verbatim*
text of the actual error messages. If they are "illegal operation"
errors then click on the Details button and give us the first part of
the detailed error message, up to the word Registers:.

Good luck

1. Cannot uninstall Norton, it says it's missing some files.
2. Cannot repair IE6, won't finish setup.
3. I'll try to send in the error messages. Most relate to Norton.

YECHHHH. Norton strikes again. Do you have the CD to reinstall it
from? If not then the next option is to manually uninstall it. If
you have Norton 2001/2002/2003 then you can download the RNAV2003.EXE
file from the Symantec web site and use it to do the job. If it is a
newer version then you are going to have to use brute force:
1. Locate all the Norton/Symantec folders on your hard drive and
delete or rename them.
2. Run a registry cleaner such as RegSeeker (free) from
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/regseeker.html

2. Cannot repair IE6, won't finish setup.

Any error message or other indication as to what the problem might be?

3. I'll try to send in the error messages. Most relate to Norton.

That may provide some additional clues.

Good luck

All but the last two items should be fixed by getting rid of Norton as
per my previous posting.

The following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base should help you
to fix the last one:

Error Message: Error Loading Powrprof.dll
https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/de...b;en-us;188213

That just leaves the setupapi.dll message. If it persists after the
other ones have been fixed then post another reply back here.

Good luck
