Manually blocking pop-ups

Win98 SE
IE 5.0

Wondering:

a.Is there a way to capture the URLs of ad sites like "You Just Won..."
or "Tickle me" or others that re-skin the IE window and block the address
bar?

b.Is there a way to mouse copy capture the results of the NETSTAT DOS
command? Hmmmm... C:\Netstat C:\capture.file?

c.Will the HOSTS file accept wildcard patterns?

d.Does anyone know if C:\Windows\HOSTS will conflict with Spybot S&D's
HOSTS.SBS?

I have a reason not to use a pop-up blocker or disable Java scripts.
