Another remedy is to run Scandisk and Defrag in Safe Mode. That will solve the problems you describe. --James-- |

You can use ScanDisk to check your hard drive for logical
and physical errors; ScanDisk can then repair the damaged areas. ScanDisk should be run once a month, along with Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter. You should run Disk Cleanup first, then ScanDisk, then Disk Defragmenter. ScanDisk must be run with no other programs or computer functions running. In order to run ScanDisk and Defrag most efficiently you will need to start the computer in SafeMode. To start the computer in SafeMode you must first Shutdown the computer. Then restart the computer by pressing the on button and then begin tapping the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Windows Startup Menu. It will have a black screen and give you three to four choices. Please press the number 3 on the keyboard with is SafeMode. The computer will then continue to startup to Windows, however, the screen colors will look funny to you. The icons might be bigger, etc. Then proceed to start ScanDisk by following the steps below. You can start ScanDisk by click Start, pointing to Programs, pointing to Accessories, pointing to System Tools, and then click ScanDisk. Inside the ScanDisk window make sure that it is scanning the C: drive and make sure that it is set to do a Thorough Scan and also to Automatically Fix errors. What would be the point if we didn't have Windows fix the errors? ScanDisk can take a long while to run, depending on the size of your hard drive. Seriously, it could take hours. Just walk away and forget about it, checking on it now and then. If you get a window that says "ScanDisk has restarted 10 times do you want to Continue or Cancel. Click Continue it will restart and then go to where it left of and then finish. When you also run Defrag in SafeMode you might get the same window that it has also restarted 10 time, click Continue and it will finish eventually. Sometime when ScanDisk is finished you will receive a report of what it found. Running ScanDisk can prolong the life of you hard drive. -----Original Message----- In article , says... Please email me with answers to ScanDefrag will efficiently run MS or Norton utilities, the log will list all the running programs and Restrictive Mode will make every effort to stop the ones that should not be running.
