Default Adding New Icons

How do I add new icons that can be accessed when I click on "change icon"?
Thank you very much to whomever can tell me.

1. Find those already on your computer...

Normally, when you do the above and click "browse", Windows will open
the file which contains the current icon. There may be others available
in the same file. You can also look in moreicons.dll (106 pretty boring
ones), progman.exe (46), shell32.dll (80), pifmgr.dll (38), shdocvw.dll
(35) and a whole bunch more files in the Windows folder. Ditto in the
Programs folder - most program exe and/or dll files will have several.

The best way to explore is via an icon program such as Microangelo.
With such program you can also extract/save icons and create icon
libraries (sort of like a zip for icons).

IconShop is another for extracting and creating libraries.

2. It is easy to find collections of icons on the web which can be
downloaded.

Thanks. I THINK this will help. I will have to check those programs out
you mentioned. What I meant was, "How can I add icons to an icon file from
programs that I add to my computer later, as time goes on?

For functional purposes, you do not need to put custom
icons into a compiled app file. Just create them to icon
specifications, name them wiith filetype ICO, keep them
in a folder /Icons, and when you browse to that folder in
/ Properties each icon will display correctly.

By "extracting" the icon with an app similar to the ones I mentioned and
stashing them in a folder or an icon library.

The advantage to an icon library is that the entire contents is
essentially one big file. If you store them as individual icons, each
one will use a minimum of 4096 of disc space - probably more (up to
32,767)depending on your system and the size of the drive on which you
store them - even though the icon itself is only a few hundred bytes.

Please forgive me. Chalk it up to my ADHD, I guess. How do you "create
them to icon specifications"? I understand about the filetype ICO, but what
do you mean by "keep them in a folder /Icons"? Do you mean in a folder
named "Icons"?

Why do the website specific icons that download when you first save a group
in Favorites or download from it sometimes disappear and are replaced by
that e icon?

Thank you very much.

Those "Favicons" were d/l to a temporary internet folder and are dumped
when you clean it out (you should) or it reaches the maximum capacity
you set for it. You can keep them by moving them to another home;
however, after you do that, the favorite shortcut will change to the "e"
unless you point it to the icon's new home.

I do that, but some of them change back even after I do that. Is there
another thing I should do to prevent this?

To help prevent them from changing, you can adjust's Window's ability to
store more of them. I couldn't find the following file online for you to
download so I'll post it here. Cut and paste the text between the dashed
lines into Notepad (don't include the dashed lines) and save as iconca.reg
(note the reg extension). Then right click on the file and select install.
