Default printer problems

Our canon printer has been printing incorrect colours for a while, when
printing pictures it looks like one of the colours is missing.

I have done a test by using a word document, and giving each line a
different font colour.

The yellow is not being printed at all, there are other peculiarities of
mis-colour which are difficult to describe.

What puzzles me is that I have borrowed a Lexmark printer to try on our pc
and it is printing with very similar symptoms of incorrect colours.

Could it be something to do with our pc that is causing the incorrect
colours.

We are on windows 98se.

Many thanks and can you advise if this is not the best newsgroup to post on.
Cheers Steve

Some printers have a built-in self test which can be accessed by
holding down and releasing one of the buttons (eg line feed) while the
device is being powered up.

Since it happens to two different printers, it could be that the correct
drivers for 98 are not installed.

I would visit Canon's site download the drivers for 98, remove the printer
via Settings = Add/Remove Printer and install the downloaded drivers.
