Default does not restart

when I hit restart (Yes) the screen goes blank and I have
to manually shut off the machine. also when I shut down it
seems to take much longer than it use to

Have you updated your AV and run a full system scan? try donwloading Ad-aware as well,http://www.lavasoftusa.com
