Restarting itself

My computer restarts itelf without me clicking restart. It
normally does it when i am in the middle of doing
something inportant. It is Windows ME By the way.

Any Ideas?

A number of ideas but it would be more helpful if you give more information.

Are you never/sometimes/always connected to the internet when it happens?
Running the same application? - if so, which application?
Do you see any error reports?
Does it always re-start by running a 'forced' scandisk? - if so, look at
scandisk.log in the C:\ folder and see if there are any clues.

i am never connected to the internet and i am either
playing a dos game, pc game or using windows media player.

I cant think when else it has done this.

Mmm... playing a dos game

If your DOS game is NOT played thru' a WinMe 'Window' - i.e. you have to
boot via your Windows Startup (floppy) Disk to play the DOS game, then you
may have narrowed down the cause already. In which case, it *sounds* like it
could be a heat/hardware related issue. Faulty or blocked fan(s)?.

But to confirm this and help eliminate other possibilities, boot using your
Windows Startup (floppy) Disk and select the DOS Help page option. Leave it
running for several hours, scrolling up and down the pages every so often
and see if it still shuts down/reboots.

If so, then it's a problem with your PC and not with WinMe.

If not, then boot into Safe Mode (F8 or Ctrl keys at boot-up) and leave it
running in that mode for a few hours and see if it shuts down/reboots. If
so, you may need to disconnect external items of hardware (USB, Printer,
etc.,) to see if you can isolate it.
