Dark screen/No color,picture, etc.
I am trying to recover an old Toshiba Tecron 8100 for a friend of mine.
However, the LCD monitor is dark, i.e., no display, colors, or backgrounds. Just dark. I can hear the computer booting up and running, there's no screen to work with. I have been researching issues with this model laptop, and they do have a history of display problems. More specifically, the backlights burn out for whatever reason. I know this model is an old one, but I wanted to know where I could learn more or if I am able to recover it, should I start with the backlight and its replacement. The other errors and issues need to be resolved, but I can't see the interface to begin troubleshooting. Does anyone know of a similar problem and where they began to resolve their similar issue? -- Thanks for taking the time. |

What happens when booting to Safe Mode? If no joy, most probable the monitor is
toast. Have a look at Toshibas site to see if they have any known issues/resolutions. http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...su_sc_home.jsp -- Brian A. Toshiba has had issues with this model regarding a dark screen. They talk
about replacing the backlight, but I have also seen this model's replacement parts ranging from just the backlight to, the entire insides, then to replacing the whole lcd screen with a new one. The last one is the most expensive, obviously. Replacing internal screen parts looks difficult. I might be afraid to take it apart, fearing I may damage something inside or out. Is there a site that shows how to do it step by step. I found one before, but they were taking apart a Sony lcd screen. "Brian A." wrote: What happens when booting to Safe Mode? You could start by looking thru this site, although a lot I read suggests having
a specialized professional do the job for the most part. http://lcd.articleinsider.com/148791..._monitors.html -- Brian A. Brian, thank you for the link. I will definitely consider what I read. It
seems difficult to complete the repair, and I am considering if it's even worth it. I would like to try just to see if I am able to do it. But, if I find assistance at a cheap enough price, I will consider taking it to them instead. Does it have a plug in for an external monitor? It may not be salvagable as
a laptop without replacing the display but with an external monitor, it may be just fine. When I was employed (those were the days g) I had a Toshiba laptop display fail on me while I was working out of town for a month. The Residence Inn was kind enough to loan me a monitor which worked very nicely for the duration of the trip. The problem was eventually resolved by replacing the display. I doubt you are going to find much on the web in the way of help--there are
slim pickings in Google. Since it doesn't work anyway, what's to worry about? Many computer shops will not even work on a laptop so you will probably pay top dollar when you find one that will. Surely the owner will not invest hundreds of dollars in an old laptop getting a professional to repair it. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Larry" wrote in message ...
