Default Computer not loading up

I have a Windows Millenium operating system.

Lately, my computer doesn't completely load on 'start-up'. It only goes as
far as showing Task Scheduler Service window. I try Control, Alt., Delete
and most of the time that doesn't help and I must push the 'Re-set' button.
'Windows' then does load up but only after the Scan Disk window appears which
states 'improper Shutdown Detected, Checking disk for errors'.

I recently deleted the following Temporary Internet files: Cookies, all
files in Temporary Internet folder and all offline content stored locally.
Would those deletions have any effect and, if so, advise me how to re-instate
any necessary items?

Would appreciate any advice you can give me. Many thanks.

Rick:

Thanks for your response.

The Task Scheduler window has always come up when I start the computer.
This is because I don't leave the computer running and there is always a task
that was missed when it is turned back on.

Insofar as the 'start-up' problem I mentioned is concerned, it has much
improved today , if not completely, for whatever reason. I am hoping this
will continue. I just tried starting up the computer again, twice, as I
write this memo and there was no problem.

I'm going to consider the matter closed and thanks for trying to help. It
is much appreciated.
