Default Clearing out old memory

I am definetly a novice here. When i recently did a virus and cookie scan on
Spyware it took forever!!!!! How do I clear old stuff so my computer runs
better??

You could start from scratch - A little drastic maybe.

However, some simpler items you may try are :
1. Clean out the \windows\temp folder (delete everything there)
2. Delete cookies and files in IE
3. Clear History

You can do 2 and 3 by right clicking on the Internet explorer on your
desktop - then select properties
On the internet properties page you will find buttons to do this.

Next, don't load programs on startup
Check autoexec.bat to see what your loading. Then check the startup group -
Do not load anything you do not need.

You can check using start --programs -- accessories -- System tools --
system information
Tools from menu then system configuration utility.
