Hard drive
I bought a used laptop with Windows 98 installed and am
having problems. The hard drive shows up as an icon, but looks to be covered in snow? I'm assuming this means there is a problem. I save things to the hard drive and they are there, but when I turn the computer off, the files are gone when I turn it back on. Also, if I make changes to my desktop, including deleting icons, the desktop returns to its original configuration when I turn turn the laptop off and back on. Is this thing haunted? Thanks for any help you can offer |

Another wrinkle to the mistery. The laptop has "Deep Freeze" software installed. I uninstalled it, yet it reappeared after rebooting. What can I do? It appears to be some corporate protection software so employees can't make any system changes. Now, I can't delete it. Help!! |

Right-click the hard drive icon and select properties. Copy down the
information and post it here. Does the information tally with the hardware installed in the machine? -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Nick" wrote in message ... Your surmise seems correct.
http://www.faronics.com/html/deepfreeze.asp The simplest process may be to ZAP or WIPE the disk using utilities to be found he http://www.faronics.com/html/deepfreeze.asp Then start over with a clean install of Windows. If the software does what it says it can do, then there's not going to be another solution. Make sure you have your product key before deleting anything: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/w98_restore.html -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Nick" wrote in message ... I'm new at this. What "product key" are you talking
about. I have a Windows 98 disk I received with a new computer purchase. Can I use that? Is there a Product key I need to get off the computer? -----Original Message----- Your surmise seems correct. http://www.faronics.com/html/deepfreeze.asp The simplest process may be to ZAP or WIPE the disk using utilities to be found he http://www.faronics.com/html/deepfreeze.asp Then start over with a clean install of Windows. Check out the site that I referred to - it covers everything you need to
know for re-installing Windows, including finding the product key. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) wrote in message ... I'm new at this. What "product key" are you talking about.
