Scandisk 105% complete
After a system crash because of an exception in Explorer, my Win98 SE PC is
trying to run SCANDISK upon bootup, but it always freezes when it gets to about 85% complete. The most recent error is that it was 105% complete, but I couldn't exit or boot. Any suggestions on how to get past this problem? Thanks Timo |

Boot from your startup disk and run scandisk from the floppy and include
thorough mode (the surface test). "Timo" wrote in message ... Scandisk was not designed to work on partitions in excess of 64GB.

-----Original Message----- After a system crash because of an exception in Explorer, my Win98 SE PC is trying to run SCANDISK upon bootup, but it always freezes when it gets to about 85% complete. Thanks Timo scandisk 105% complete Timo I might be completely off base here, but I had your problem once and a whole lot more(computer locking up 3 or 4 times a day for no reason, etc). But anyway I was talking to a computer technician who told me of a lot of computers with windows98 that were made in 1998-1999 years had defective electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard and causing strange unfixable problems in the software. He told me to look at the motherboard for any green plastic wrapped capacitors with a "Peace" sign (3 intersecting lines) on the top. He said these particular capacitors swell up sometimes and mess up the electrical flow terribly to all other components. Well, I checked my motherboard, I had a couple of those green peace signed capacitors and I purchased a rebated motherboard from Syntax for 5 dollars and guess what.....every single problem I had went away, ..no more freezes,my scandisk worked and the thousands of hours I had spent working on software solutions and blaming viruses or bad registry finally paid off. Now remember, this technician I spoke to said these capacitors were only used in the late 1990's motherboards by the majors like HP ,Compaq, IBM, and the like. Maybe this isn't your problem, but if your computer is about 5 years old or so...take a look at that motherboard and look for those green goblins! . |
