Default Can't run in safe mode, keyboard error in startup, can't log on

There's lots going on here. Start the computer and it seems to run fine.
Get to the log in screen and after logging in, either with password or
hitting Cancel (whicl always worked before), it just stalls.......the
keyboard doesn't work at this point, but the mouse does. Ctrl+alt+del and
there is NOTHING in task manager. Restart computer and hold F8, does not go
to that startup menu to choose Safe Mode, etc; instead it says "keyboard
error" and keeps booting to the log in screen. Keyboard works at this point,
but not after loggin in. Tried using the reinstall CD and the CD ROM doesn't
read the CD or any CD. Am able to hold the Tab button at startup and it goes
into the directory there, but not familiar with that territory, so not sure
what to do in there. Does anyone have a solution or explaination? Thanks!!!

Holding down F8 is almost certain to give a 'stuck keyboard error' - you
need to hold down the CTRL key (or tap the F8 key about 1-2 times per
second) - but ONLY after the RAM count has finished.

Once/If you manage to get to Safe Mode, open Device Manager and let us know
how many instances of every device you have there!
