NIS 2005 installation error message
When installing from downloaded version of NIS 2005 I continually get the
message "The installation is missing the file instopts.dat." I have done everything on the support sight and called the support line (India) and did everything they said, which was everything I had already done and it still will not install. India said Microsoft problem. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks much. -- Janey |

Don't touch NIS with a stick......let alone allow it near your machine.
Get your money back, get a good AV, Firewall and Spyware proggies that work with Me. Personally, I would not recommend anything from McAfee, either. Thank you for your response Heirloom. What AV would you recommend? I am a
novice at this. "heirloom" wrote: Don't touch NIS with a stick......let alone allow it near your machine. Get your money back, get a good AV, Firewall and Spyware proggies that work with Me. There are a couple of free AV utilities that are highly recommended in these Newsgroups, Avast and also AVG. I prefer Avast because they provide customer support. You may download either from: Avast http://www.avast. com AVG http://www.grisoft.com Once you download, immediately check for updates. One other recommendation is to turn off the default e-mail scanning, since it isn't required. A further recommendation, if you don't already have these, I suggest you download them, immediately check for updates and then run a scan to clean up your system. Delete everything that AdAware finds but use judgement with Spybot. Generally you can delete everything that is red flagged, but just check it over to ensure that it isn't part of one of your programs. AdAware http://www.lavasoft.de/ Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org Hope this helps. Dan "Janey R" wrote in message ... Thank you for your response Heirloom. Just FYI, I second the recommendations by Dan.......There are others, some
more $$ than others, but, still good. The Adaware and Spybot are musts. Would also recommend a good Firewall.... Zone Alarm, has a free version and a $$ version, both are excellent. Heirloom, old and uses them all "Janey R" wrote in message ... Thanks Dapper Dan. I will take your suggestion and I will try to get a refund on my Norton purchase. Have a great day! The problem was I was trying to fix the problem, assuming the wrong version. I kept trying the solutions they had for fixing the NIS 2005 errors, when, instead I should have been focusing on completely removing 2004. I looked up how to completely uninstall NIS 2004(my previous version). Tthey have a registry patch at Symantec to clean things up. After I did this, I was able to install NIS 2005 just fine. |
