Default CDR/CDRW problems

I recently purchased and installed a new CD-R/RW drive,
BTC brandname, it's a plug and play device. However there
are two issues since installing it, firstly I can put a
music disk in and it will play, but if I go to My
Computer, it is not listed, also my DVD-Rom is also now
not in the list, however I can play DVD's/Music through it.

Because they can play music I'm thinking this is more of a
software/driver issue than hardware. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
