Default WinZip 8.0 running v. slowly (now 98lite)

When you INSTALL Lite, yes. But it claims to offer the
functionality remove or change any of the Lite mods, and it
sure as hell did not when I tried to do UNDO the
"Liteness".

I didn't try to uninstall it - just switch from SLEEK to
CHUBBY or something like that.

That's what I tried. The smaller two of the 4 Lite variations
change the 3 files previously mentioned and when I went into
Lite setup, the TWO options were what I told you before.

SNIP

I _think_ that is some of the other files, like
notepad.exe, which apparently need some tweaking to make
them work with the old shell.

Yes, there is a total of 11 files including the 3 main ones.

The reason for all this is that the Czech site I gave you
the link for has the last Skype for 98 and it won't install
under Lite.

Ah. Let's hope it's only the installer!

Who the hell knows.

They're COMDLG32.DLL, EXPLORER.EXE and SHELL32.DLL. But
as I said, the only one I have in the W98 version is the
shell. Whatever. Who cares.

Hmm. Thinking about it, I'm not _not_ sure whether I did
the shell switching using 98lite (though I still _think_
it can do it); I think I just swapped the files (in DOS,
of course [where I have XTree Gold which makes things
easier]) - I think possibly just the two, explorer.* and
shell32.*, with their '98 equivalents; after a reboot, it
came up looking enough like '98 to allow an installation
(that wouldn't run under "95") to run. Then (in DOS
again) switch them back. []

Well, that sounds simple enough and promising. Worth a try.
Thanks.

Acronising is easier. And I enjoy the 45 minute endless
idiot

But how does Acronising help you install something that
won't?

Absolutely correct. My statement made no sense - although of
course, if you have an Acronis of a full 98SE and an Acronis of
a Lite, you can replace contents of C: with whichever you need -
IOW, I could /conceivably/ use the FULL 98se if I wanted to use
the "Skype for 98" - if it works at all, which is yet unknown -
and for everything else I would use Lite. Of course, that's a
little insane, but so am I.

question/answer process of a Windows OS install.

Do you really? Assuming you're being sarcastic, you need
soporific's unattended boot CD (UBCD). Probably worth
getting the Windows 98 tenth anniversary edition, which is
a version of the UBCD. []

Yes, I have an unattended hacked boot of 98. I think. There are
SO many of them around. I am REALLY getting tired of all this
computer stuff.
