Default primary/secondary video adapter question

I recently put together a Win98se system with the intention of using dual
monitors.
The primary video card is an 8mb SiS pci card on the primary monitor.
The second video card is a 4mb ATI AIW pci card on the secondary monitor.
The AIW card requires updated video drivers and when I loaded the software,
all it did was mess up the primary video display. So I am wondering....
Is it possible to update the secondary video drivers without messing up the
primary? I wanted to use the AIW video capturing software since it has
provisions for it, but I wanted to keep the SiS card as primary for general
use since it has more memory and runs a bit faster. Do I have to swap the
video cards and make the ATI card the primary in order to capture video?
Thanks for any suggestions!

It certainly should be possible to do what you want, as the two video
adapters are quite separate devices. However, whether they are compatible
with each other is a different issue, so it's possible that one version of
the driver software creates a compatible device and another version doesn't,
or that one version makes it compatible only when it's the master. That's
the only possible way that the change should affect the other adapter. If
the upgrade has overwritten or corrupted.the original adapter's drivers,
then that's badly written software. Have you tried re-installing the
original driver for the adapter that got affected?
