Office 2000 in Win98SE
Hello,
I've run Office 2000 succesfully for several years in Win98SE, but suddenly it won't start anymore in the user profiles. It will still run in the default user (? when I press cancel instead of choosing a user profile at start up). I haven't installed anything new, except perhaps an auto update of Mozilla Firefox. Different office applications give me different error messages: Microsoft Outlook: This application must be installed to run. Please run Setup from the location where you originally installed the application. Word: The Windows Installer failed to install the program associated with this file. Please contact your system administrator. I have resinstalled Win98SE and Office 2000 from the location where it was originally installed, but it won't help. Is there a way to manually repair the registry? Which line should I look for/fix? Which registries could I compare? The only option I can think of is creating new user profiles, but that would require a lot of work. Any help would be much appreciated. |

Find and delete NORMAL.DOT file. (If more than one, delete them all.) If
that doesn't help, you need to repost this to an Office newsgroup. This newsgroup is dedicated to problems with setting up Windows 98, nothing else. -- Gary S. I suggest you take your question to an Office group or forum, where you may get a
better answer. See if anything here helps: You receive a "This application must be installed to run" error message when you start Office 2000 programs because of missing subkey information http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298829/en-us You receive installation-related error messages when you start Office 2000 programs if User Profiles are enabled and the Start menu is shared http://support.microsoft.com/kb/238387/en-us An "Application must be installed" error message occurs when you start an Office programs http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302846/en-us -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Rouke" wrote in message ...
