DVD & CD drives
When I put a CD in my DVD or CD drive nothing is recognized. They work
because I wouldn't be able to put a CD in them, but they don't play and when I go into Device Manager to see what the problem is, it says that the device is working properly but the drivers haven't been installed and the drivers aren't needed. I don't know what the heck to think? I'm using Windows 98 SE OS in my desktop PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Daniel -- attilathehun1 |

Windows Key + e and thanks for that hint. Yeah I view both D drive and E
drive. Both appear and you can alternate click them and view properties and a list of options. They are recognized in Device Manager, but when I try to put a CD-ROM disk in them and the LED light that says it's working stays on for 15 seconds and then goes out. So anotherwords, when you right click on the icons in My Computer it says nothing is in the drive. DVD & CD drives
Ok, I just put the game diablo in the DVD drive and it worked, but when I put
a blank CD disk in the drive it says the drive is empty and then the LED light stops blinking. I want to burn my PC class intermediate networking class on a CD. Both drives are recognized in the device manager. To answer your question about the PC. I put this together from different parts of PCs. I did buy the DVD burner for 40 bucks from the PC Club, it's brand new. The CD burner is kinda old but it's a good one, HP CD-Writer Plus 9100 Series. So anotherwords, they work but they don't recognize blank CDs. I'll give it another shot right now, hang on. Nope, it says not accessible, the device is not ready. The LED on the HP CD Writer stayed on longer and almost read that there was a blank CD in the drive I think. Wait one more shot, hang on, nope E:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready. Same for both D and E drives. Same message. Any help would be greatly appreciated. PS I'll troubleshoot it more and check the darn jumpers. What a hassle! -- attilathehun1 "John Dulak" wrote: attilathehun1 wrote: Windows Key + e and thanks for that hint. Yeah I view both D drive and E drive. That response would be correct for a blank CD or DVD.
Start your CD/DVD writing software and see if it detects a blank disk. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "attilathehun1" wrote in message ... I don't know what the heck to think? I'm using Windows 98 SE [] When you say "nothing is recognised", what do you mean - Explorer can't see anything on the CDs, or what? If that is the case, it doesn't sound good, though two drives dying at once seems unlikely. If by any chance you mean the CDs don't start up as you expect, that could just be that you've got autorun turned off, which is easily corrected (I think it's "autoinsert notification" in the properties of the drives in device manager, BIBCW.). DVD & CD drives
The devices are reading blank CDs now. The problem seems to be that both
devices are reading the exact same readout. Anotherwords, when you put the blank CD into the HP CD-Writer Plus 9100 series driver the HP logo and invent appears and then create HP myCD and create a CD and HP simple back-up or something to like that. Now the HP CD-Writer is the slave and the master is the LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160P6S but the master is reading HP myCD and create a CD and HP simple back-up exactly what the HP CD Writer is reading. I figure something is fishy! Another thing is now in Device Manager and in Belarc Downloads the HP CD-Writer Plus 9100 series burner is not showing up as that and is showing up as (CD-Rom drive) only. Before, it used to say HP CD-Writer Plus 9100. Now after loading the drivers with the CD that came with the device, just (CD-Rom drive). Any help is greatly appreciated. '98 doesn't, I'm pretty certain, have native support for writers; in most cases, it will see them as a CD-ROM drive - i. e. reader only. Since you're now getting the HP logo and invent and create HP myCD, I presume you must have loaded some software that came with the HP writer, that is detecting you've put something other than a CD-ROM in, and is firing up "HP myCD" whatever that is - presumably HP's own writer software (analogous to Roxio or Nero, which are the commonest two writer softwares). I'm finding it a little difficult to follow your sentences above (write shorter sentences, or use more punctuation - I'm not really getting at you, but I think we'd all be able to help you better!), but I think you are saying the same happens whichever drive you put the blank into; this sort of makes sense. I'm not sure if you mean you have (now or at some time in the past) installed HP software, and then recently installed some more software that came with the LITEON drive; anyway, it sounds as if both drives are now recognised as a writer by whichever software is firing up first, so the same result will apparently ensue whichever drive you put the blank in. Since it's saying HP, I presume it's the HP software; whether that software would actually work with the LITEON drive, I don't know. It _may_ pay you to uninstall the HP software (which you _may_ have to do by "removing" the drive in Device Manager); that all depends whether the two softwares interact adversely with each other. (Make sure you've still got the CD it came on though in case it is needed after all!) _Have_ you installed any software that came with the LITEON? If so, do you know what it's called (Nero is commonest)? -- J. P. Gilliver | Tel: +44 1634 203298 Essex home for sale, c. £70k: see http://www.soft255.demon.co.uk/home/ |

Anotherwords, the master is reading the same as the HP CD-Writer 9100 series
slave drive. You put a CD in the Lite-ON drive and up comes HP My-CD as if I put a CD in the HP myCD. Both drives are reading HP myCD creates. I think I need to load up the drivers for the Lite-ON but I can't find the CD installation disc that came with the device. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
