fatal exception errors durring setup
I have had problems running and installing programs on my win98 machine, so I
tried to reinstall win98. Now I can't get past all the fatal exception errors and the system hangs in bluescreen until turned off. I've tried step by step confirmation startup skipping all the vxd files and that didn't work. I would like to try setup again, but from the C drive instead of my CD ROM. I'm not sure how to tell DOS to copy the setup directory from the CD ROM to the C drive. Could someone tell me the command to type? |

Katrina: IF you can access the CD drive from a DOS prompt the command line would be: md c:\win98 copy CD Drive's Letter:\win98\*.* c:\win98 This will copy the contents of the CD's "win98" folder to a folder of the same name on the C: drive. Once the files are copied: cd c:\win98 setup Should start the setup program. If you do NOT have acces to the CD drive from a DOS prompt you need a boot floppy that provides support for CD drives. You can download a small utility that will create one for you at: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm Almost any version will work just fine. fatal exception errors durring setup
Hi,
Thanks, I have reinstalled windows 98 and then I had to manually extract many .dll files from the cabs and yet it was still giving me the invalid page fault at module explorer.exe error then going to a blank screen. So I tried scanreg /restore and scanreg/ fix, to no avail (from the command prompt). I have tried editing and replacing shell=explorer.exe with shell=progman.exe in the sys.ini file and running IE setup from there. However my latest version of IE seems to have messed up the uninstall files and the repair tool with it so I can't load any of the older IE versions that I have on my hard drive or on my Windows 98SE disk. So I found IE 6 on a ISP provider CD and ran setup from program manager. Then I edited sys.ini again so that shell=explorer.exe and it finally loaded up to a regular win98 GUI. ------ Whew -------- Now back to my original problem installing any programs. I'll start a new thread. Thanks for all your help (I read through dozens of posts). Cheers!
