A really smart and careful user will know that an AV is an important
part of the 'trust yet verify' security mantra.

It's most of the other forms of malware that are (or should be) easily
enough avoided.

Yeah, wes wooda let ya slyd on dat 1...

So how much and via what link?

Reason... I checked and must have missed the link [or rather any
mention of DOS/9X except for a description page on the official site
{somewhere}].. though you say it comes with the NT supported one, is
that correct?

And not to ahh cut, but when you have purchased NOD32 and apparently
use it, it doesn't make sense to indicate you don't need an AV {you must
have thought you did}, `corse dats jes me an da ways i tink...

EST NOD32 has a 9x version AND a DOS version. They are all -
including the current XP/Vista/7(?) version available when you
buy the official current version - which can be purchased at a
discount (but /without/ tech support) from various discount web
sites.

You get the current version and with the same license DL the DOS
or 9x version from one of their sites. They have LOTS of sites
in different countries and some may have the DOS and/or 9x
versions and some may not.

They told me they intend to continue supporting the 9x version -
the daily update files continue to work. IOW, the 9x /program/
itself will no longer be "improved" (bloated, made ugly,
complicated, buggy, in most cases) but the sig files should
continue working.

It's not free but it just happens to be the best. Of course, a
really smart and careful user does not even need an AV program
but everyone's got one, even I... Although now that I see I am
getting dumber every day, I probably need one more than before.

Google.

Purplus is one [place I know that sells it cheaper.

I don't know anything about NT... There is DOS, 9x, and XP and
maybe Win 7 now...
You have to check several international ESET sites to find the
9x one (it may be just 98 or 98/2000 or whatever but that's OK I
trust...)

And not to ahh cut, but when you have purchased NOD32 and

important part of the 'trust yet verify' security mantra.

Trust and verify? Trust NO ONE. Verify via own brain.

Mantra? No thanks.

Vegemite? No thanks.

This doesn't make sense but it's late.

I have always used an AV program but the only time in 15 I
/almost/ got a virus I found out about by using an install
monitor before I ran anything. It was a call-home "extra", not a
virus, actually.

Of course this doesn't mean my system can NOT get totally ****ed
up by 'something' tomorrow so I DID buy and use ESET. In the
11.5 months I've had it it has found nothing. Because there IS
nothing - because I try to be both careful and the least stupid
possible given my age and mental condition.
