can ping dns server and yahoo by name BUT--
and there's always a "but"--I cannot connect using IE6.
This is W98Gold. Had a meltdown, and had to reinstall my ATT dialer. Wouldn't authorize, so AT tech supp worked me through all the dialer issues. No joy. So uninstalled dialer, DUN etc, and reinstalled DUN per knowledge base 181599. Tech supp got me to point where we established a new DUN connection using ATT ids and dns servers, and I could do the pings BUT IE6 won't connect. What up? I remember a problem similar to this some yeas ago where, after installing a McAfee VS version, it replaced a Windows file with one of its own--and that is a possible complication, as I had just installed VS 8 before this problem occurred. Try LSP-Fix: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Assuming you haven't reinstalled Windows, you now need to find the malware/Trojan that caused the problem (and meltdown): Help with Hijackware http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm [You're not a pharmacist, are you?] -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE) Scott Needham wrote: and there's always a "but"--I cannot connect using IE6.
