Default Win 98 SE Freezes on Com3

My PC running Win98 SE has a Supra SST modem on Com3.
When I try to connect to the Internet, the PC freezes.
When I try Modem Diagnostics, the PC freezes
When I try to use Hyper Treminal direct to Com3 the PC freezes.

I've deleted the modem, reseated the modem, Win 98 picks it up and allocates
it to Com3, but whatever I try to do with it on Com3 the PC freezes.

It used to work, but I've done a bit of a cleanup, and something has gone
wrong

Default

What other COM ports do you have? Generally, using COM 3 requires some
special configuration, as it shares an interrupt with COM 1 by default, and
both devices cannot work together. If you aren't using COM 1 then the
simplest solution is to disable COM 1 (probably in BIOS setup options)
remove the existing COM 3 (preferably in safe mode) and re-install. It
should default to COM 1.
