Install IE6 on WinMe fails, cannot open control panel
Hi Peter :-)
Do you have your install CD for WinME? Or, is it an OEM install? Try the following and see if it helps: Can't open control panel http://computing.net/windows95/wwwbo...rum/18457.html Although it say for W98, it might work for ME too. However, you may have to do a repair of WinME. You might find it helpful to take a look at the information below for information you may need to do the repair or reinstall of ME. You should at this point be very careful in how you do the reinstall if necessary, as you may wind up with an IE cross mixture that will be harder to resolve. By way of this reply, I cross-posting this to the microsoft.public.windowsme.general newsgroup as well, as you may need the assistance of the experts there to help with the Control Panel problem and ME repair and IE installs if necessary. How to make a good newsgroup post: http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm Sorry, but it didn't work. There was no file with the .ini extension. The one file with the .err extension had a list of the files that could not be copied. Would it be a problem to copy these files form another machine with the same operating system and IE version? Any other ideas? Thanks! Peter Pepper "Don Varnau" don_04[at]varnau[dot]org wrote in message ... There were some errors on restart, "unable to copy file %1 from %2, press any key." Now, when I start IE, I cannon click any shortcuts on pages, including windows update page. I was going to attempt to "repair" IE from add/remove, but alas, the Control Panel will not open. "Unknown error." Anyone have an idea? TIA Peter Pepper |
