notepad, disk defrag, disk cleanup missing

I'm running WIN98 and I just noticed that my notepad, disk defrag and disk
cleanup programs are missing. Any suggestions on how I can retrieve them?
I do not have the original WIN98 disk. Thanks, Norm

my computer...where else?
no icons in the startup menu under accessories any longer.
not sure what ocurred to have them disappear like that.

Is it only the shortcuts or is it the executables themselves?
If only the shortcuts, then just create new ones, e.g, if
C:\Windows\Notepad.exe is there, create a shortcut to it and put it
where you like.
If the executables are missing, then extract new copies from your
Win98 CD.

1.) they are gone..bye bye...no notepad.exe to be found

You can get a better Notepad program.

Notepad+
Roger Meurs' outstanding freeware replacement for the Windows Notepad
program, with many more features -- and without Notepad's limitations!

As for other missing programs without the Windows cd you are out of luck.
May be able to find a copy for not much money at Ebay.

WinMe defrag works fine in Win98 and is at least four times faster.
Usually we recommend renaming defrag.exe then renaming WinMEdefrag.exe
to defrag.exe and placing it in C:\windows. Since yours is missing,
just the last step in required.
