How do I find where the firewall is listed so I can disconnect during an
installation on my 98SE PC?

Windows 98 does not come with a firewall installed. If you've never
installed a software firewall, you probably don't have one. On the
chance that one was installed by someone else, you'll probably
have an icon associated with the firewall in the system tray.(next
to the clock) If so, you should be able to control it from there.

What are you installing that needs the firewall disabled?

If a software install requires that the firewall be disconnected then I don't
need it. And I never do online installs either. If I can't download and
install locally then I will just have to do without that particular software.
I've managed to get by without that SW since I got into computers (about an hour
ago) so I can get by without it for a while longer.

Otoh, it may be necessary to temporarily disable a firewall for
troubleshooting purposes, or for example, installing another firewall.
And why I asked.. "what is being installed...".

George! Glad to see that your demise was overly exaggerated..

Very good points.

I don't think my demise is imminent although I am on a greased slide into old
age.
I've asked a couple of people about you but still didn't get the answer I
needed.
I think that (quite) a while back you sent me a message with a new address. I'm
afraid that the message fell victim to some overly zealous message cleanup
procedures **BEFORE** the change made it into the AB. I'll still be around
until tomorrow and hope to hear from you.
I'm slowly getting in touch with people again. Just sent a msg off to the bear
(that slacker) but I have actually heard from him a couple of times lately.
Take care

Just sent an email but was returned, so apparently I don't have your address
either. Mine here works if edited.
