Networking Card 3Com "3C905B-TX": File "el90xbc5.sys" not found
Hi all,
I hope, somebody can help me: I try to install a Networking Card 3Com 3C905B-TX, I even used a driver from §com, but there is always the message: File "el90xbc5.sys" not found. Though this file normally must be in the path Windows/System/System32/Drivers. I also looked on the ME CD, but this file does not exist there either. -- Marion |

Networking Card 3Com "3C905B-TX": File "el90xbc5.sys" not found
el90xbc5.sys is included in the file NET4.CAB of the Win Me file set which
can be found in either the Win9x folder on a retail Win Me CD or in either the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs or C:\Windows\Options\Install folder on your Win Me PC. See MS KB129605 - "HOW TO: Extract Original Compressed Windows Files" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=129605). Alternatively you can download more recent drivers for your 3C905B-TX from the 3COM site (http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/r...-TX&order=desc) and select and download the file 3c90x1.exe. If those don't work try the older 3x90xn1.exe -- Mike Maltby .. Networking Card 3Com "3C905B-TX": File "el90xbc5.sys" not fou
Thank you, I found the file on the ME CD-ROM. But unfortunately, since I
copied new 3com drivers to the folder, the system crashes down every time I want to install the card. It searches for the Drivers until the folder "Drivers Windows" which I did not find, and after some seconds, there is no answer anymore, the PC shuts downs. I tried to delete the driver files, but this did not change anything, but made things worse as I deleted also some other drivers files (for USB) f.ex. I I tried to reinstall those, but with the same reaction, shut down by searching for the driver. It did not find a driver on the ME CD either ?????? -- Marion "Mike M" wrote: el90xbc5.sys is included in the file NET4.CAB of the Win Me file set which can be found in either the Win9x folder on a retail Win Me CD or in either the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs or C:\Windows\Options\Install folder on your Win Me PC. Networking Card 3Com "3C905B-TX": File "el90xbc5.sys" not fou
..Thank you, now I restored the system and the networking card seems to be
installed correctly. But now the USB does not fonction anymore with the notice: The NTKERN.VxD device loaders for this device could not load the device driver (Code 2). I found the Article 299264 on the MS site and followed the steps, creating Start Up disk and so on. But the extracting of the Uhdc.sys etc. files does not work, there is the error that the Files are not found on the Millenium CD (Null). I named the Path CD-ROM:/Win9x/BASE2.cab, that is the path, where I found the files on the CD-ROM. but it does not work with CD-ROM:/Win9x either. I wrote the files down inthat way: Uhcd.sys Usbhub.sys Usbd.sys, or must they be separated with an semikolon? Thank you in advance -- Marion "Mike M" wrote: Use system restore to rollback your system to before you started deleting files. Drivers Windows isn't a Win Me system folder and one that either you or your PC manufacturer might have created. All of the files required to provide a basic driver for your card are in the Win Me cab/setup files located in the same folder as NET4.CAB. Each time you get asked for a file point the installer at that folder. -- Mike Maltby MB wrote: Thank you, I found the file on the ME CD-ROM. The path to use is CD-ROM\Win9x and not Win9x\Base2.CAB.
Try what I previously suggested. When the installer asks for the various files point the installer at the folder containing the cab files rather than trying to extract them yourself. If however you want to extract them yourself, do so however the easiest way to do so is probably being to double click on the cab file in Windows Explorer to open it, select the files you require and then drag copies to the required location. Initially perhaps to the desktop and when you have extracted new copies of all the files you need, move them to their correct locations. For the files you mention you should be able to do this whilst Win Me is running and not need to boot to DOS using a floppy. -- Mike Maltby MB wrote: .Thank you, now I restored the system and the networking card seems to be installed correctly. I tried wgat you suggested and copied the 3 files to system32/drivers and
then started the driver again. It asekd for some more files and the three named one to copy them to Options/cabs-Folder. After that, the message "NTKERN ......" was still there, and I tried to reinstall the driver one more. Now it does not ask for more files anymore, it seems to reinstall the driver at windows../inf successfully, but the error and message "NTKERN..." does not disappear. But only for USB-Driver, the 2 other errors (keyboard, USB processor) disappeared after copying the demanded files to the cab-folder. I tried to start the PC in the safe mode, like described in 265371, but without success, there is no sign, if the computer has completed the Power On Self Test.- Marion "Mike M" wrote: The path to use is CD-ROM\Win9x and not Win9x\Base2.CAB. Once again why not follow my original suggestion or is there some reason
why you try and do things the long and awkward way? When the installer asks for files point it at the folder containing the Win Me cab set. Even better fix/repair the registry so that it does this automatically. You will then not have to worry about locating and copying the required files. You can either do this using TweakUI Start TweakUI, open the My Computer tab, In the section Special Folders select Installation Path in the drop down box labelled Folder and then click Change Location and point it at the folder containing the Win Me cab files or by using Regedit Start | Run | Regedit In the left hand pane browse to the key HKEY-LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVe rsion\Setup and then in the right hand pane locate and select the key SourcePath, double click and in the box that opens enter the correct path to the folder containing the Win Me cab files. -- Mike Maltby MB wrote: I tried wgat you suggested and copied the 3 files to system32/drivers and then started the driver again. Thank you , I will now try.
The first suggestion was the thing I tried at the beginning, but the system did not accept the CD-ROM-drive, but sprung always back to C:/Windowa/Options/CABs -- Marion "Mike M" wrote: Once again why not follow my original suggestion or is there some reason why you try and do things the long and awkward way?
