Virtual memory setting?
Why is it when I try to manage my virtual memory settings it does not take?
When trying to add in either min or max amounts, the numbers always go to zero after reboot. Also I've noticed that the hard disk amount is set at c:\-28098MB free. After trying to set min and max values, and after a reboot the Win386.swp moves from the windows directory to the c:\. From what I read this is normal, but why does min\max always revert to zero? |

Virtual memory setting?
It is infinitely preferable to let Win Me handle your virtual memory
however the negative disk space you are seeing is the result of a small cosmetic bug in Win Me and happens when there is more than 32GB of free space on the drive. For more details see MS KB272620 - "Negative Hard Disk Free Size Reported on Virtual Memory Tab in System Properties" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=272620). If you decide you want this hotfix when you contact Microsoft give them details of the problem you are having, your operating system and the hotfix you require. Provided you ask no other technical questions there should be no charge other than the cost of your phone call. If you have any problems ask to speak to a supervisor and also please e-mail me details. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows [2001-2006] Johnny J. wrote: Why is it when I try to manage my virtual memory settings it does not take? Virtual memory setting?
I have let windows handle virtual memory since I bought this computer
about 4 yrs. ago. I wanted to manage my virtual memory for troubleshooting purposes. My PC every now and then hangs, either after a virus scan or watching a video embedded in a web page(video.msn.com). The win386.swp that is in the windows directory would jump from zero to about 50MB's after a virus scan (avg). The Pc would then hang if I were to visit a website, open windows explorer, etc . Device manager states that all devices are enabled and working and I am pretty much up to date on drivers. No changes to the system were made since the hangs started about three weeks ago. My system is clean from malware and viruses( cwshredder, adaware, spybot, avg hijackthis, etc). I know that hang and freeze issues are sometimes very hard to determine the cause, so I'm trying the virtual memory angle. Thanks, "Mike M" wrote in message ...
